Director-General of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, inaugurating the 34th Traffic Week celebrations at Darb Al Saai, yesterday.
DOHA: Director-General of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi yesterday inaugurated 34th Traffic Week celebrations in the presence of many officers and department directors of the Ministry of Interior at Darb Al Saai with the participation of more than 60 entities.
The aim of the traffic week is to spread traffic awareness and to control and decrease traffic accidents. It held under the theme “your life is a trust”.
“I hope that traffic awareness be increased among people because we are saving people’s lives and the percentage of deaths due to traffic accidents decreased and this is due to awareness which must be increased at all levels either traffic, civil defense among others,” Al Khulaifi said.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the event regarding traffic fines, he said that in his opinion they were enough currently and any increase needed a study. Al Khulaifi and other officers took a tour to different pavilions at Darb Al Saai and were briefed about the participation of the entities and their efforts in raising traffic awareness among community.
The Traffic Week activities at Darb Al Saai will remain open for public daily in two shifts: 8am to 12pm and 4pm to 9pm except on Friday when there will be one shift from 4pm to 10pm.
The event will continue until Saturday, March 24, with a wide-range of activities that include a number of awareness activities with the participation of ministries and institutions related to awareness and traffic in the country.
General Directorate of Traffic, Director Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji said that what marked the traffic week this year was the participation of Qatar Scientific Club which invented a device that would disconnect cell phone connections in driving vehicles.
“Another important thing is another device that sends a message in case of an accident”.
Also, in the event, a school bus was exhibited at the school pavilion which was equipped with camera that can register violation for not keeping safe distance from school buses.
“Parents have to visit the traffic week and to share with us spreading traffic awareness by bringing their children to see these activities which will raise their knowledge”, Al Kharji explained. The associated events include a large number of activities, different from the previous years’ featuring the traffic services provided by the Licensing Department of the General Directorate of Traffic to the participants of the event.
Vehicle Registration, Renewal of Driving Licenses, Mobile Technical Inspection of Vehicles, Field of Training and Driving Test, as well as an exhibition of insurance companies and traffic competitions sponsored by driving schools are among the activities.
A series of lectures will be delivered during the event, among it an awareness lecture titled “Reckless Traffic Behavior from Islamic Perspective” will be held in addition to the other activities at The Traffic Village, The Licensing Department, and The students’ Theater.
