DOHA: French jockey Pier Convertino yesterday timed his final burst with near-perfection as he rode Raedah to his first win since December 2013 when the 7-year-old stormed to victory in the Brouq Cup.
Trained by A. de Mieulle, Raedah finished the 1200m feature race at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) some three and a half lengths ahead of Al Fakhamah and Hassiba.
Ridden by Richard Mullen, Al Fakhamah finished in second spot while Hassiba - who had T O’Shea in the saddle - ended the feature race in third spot.
In race seven, Jassim Al Ghazali-trained Oasis Cannes raced to win ahead of Star Deal and Upholland.
Ridden by Stephan Ladjadj, Oasis Cannes clocked a time of 2:01:54 in the 1900m race.
Star Deal - ridden by Y Al Hajri - finished second while Mullen powered Upholland to the third spot.
In race six, Mullen rode Wonder of Qatar to victory ahead of Urban Dreamer and Alsefra in a time of 1:04:37.
Wonder of Qatar finished ahead JP Guillambert-ridden Urban Dreamer by just over a length’s margin.
Alsefra, ridden by Evert Pheiffer, finished a couple lengths behind Urban Dreamer.
In race five, O’Shea was the winner when Dardawan raced past the winning post in the 1800m race.
Al Ghazali-trained Kalahari Kingdom - ridden by Guillambert - finished second while Dartford - who had Pheiffer in the saddle, ended the race in third spot.
Dardawan won with a time of 1:55:38.
Jockey Yanis Aouabed scored two wins with Al Ghazali’s entries, taking race four on Rasi and race three on Shaqran.
In race two, Sirat Al Naif galloped to a purposeful win with jockey Gerald Avranche while Ammon topped race one with Adrian Nicholls in the saddle.
The riders return to the race track today to battle for Umm Al Afai Cup for local thoroughbreds.
Action in race one takes place at 4:00pm today.
