The work is underway to develop many roads, pedestrian crossings to serve the residents of Constituency Number 8, said an official at the General Directorate of Traffic.
“Some streets in the constituency will be converted from existing two lanes to four lanes and more services will be added to roads,” he added.
“The work is underway to develop A Ring Road into a four-lane one instead of the two lanes. The development of B Ring Road will be in three lanes instead of two lanes and will include service roads, pedestrian crossings and other tracks for bicycles,” said First Lieutenant Khaled Nasser Al Mulla, Traffic Planning Officer.
This came during an interactive session attended by CMC member, representatives from General Directorate of Traffic, held under the community partnership programme. Under the programme, the General Directorate of Traffic held a consultative gathering at the private Majlis of Sheikha bint Yousuf Hasan Al Jufairi, CMC member of the Constituency Number 8, Old Airport.
Al Mulla said that the work is also underway to improve the traffic network in a number of areas, including Al Ghanim Al Atiq, Airport Road, among others in addition to reviewing the entrances and exits of the main streets in the areas of the Constituency Number 8, and finding permanent solutions to the problem of traffic jams.
First Lieutenant Ahmed Mohammed Al Kathiri, Traffic Awareness Officer, participated in the programme, in addition to Captain Asmaa Gohar Saeed, Officer from the Licensing Department, and Lieutenant Sarah Zayed Walid, System Officer from the Department of Administrative Affairs.
Speaking about the aims of the meeting, First Lieutenant Al Kathiri said that these visits were within the framework of the General Directorate of Traffic’s keenness to communicate with all members of society and listen to their proposals and ideas on the traffic situation as well as inform them about future traffic plans and projects specific to their areas.
It also aims to spread the traffic culture to enhance safety and security concepts to reduce deaths and severe injuries resulting from traffic accidents, Al Kathiri affirmed, adding that the community partnership programme implemented by the General Directorate of Traffic within its annual operating plan with the aim of communicating with all groups of society to spread the traffic awareness among people.
Al Jufairi praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate of Traffic in achieving security and stability for all citizens and residents in the state, especially the efforts made by the Traffic Department, stressing that it is an example to be followed in the quality and excellence of the services provided to the public.
She praised the initiative of the Department and its continuous communication with members of the CMC, expressing her hope that such meetings and visits to continue. Al Jufairi noted that the Constituency Number 8 is considered one of the largest geographical area, as it includes 25 areas, and includes massive commercial activities.
The attendees discussed some details about the problems of entrances and exits in the main streets, the need of reprogramming some traffic signals in the area, congestion on the commercial airport road and the streets surrounding Ihraj Street.
First Lieutenant, Ahmed Mohammed Al Kathiri, urged the attendees to report immediately the traffic violations through the application of Metrash2 by taking photographs of the violation and the location, explaining that the General Directorate of Traffic works to verify the violation.
