DOHA: Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) conducted a series of workshops on recently as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) marked this year with worldwide events last week.
As a founding partner of the GEW initiative, for the first time in Qatar, QSTP organised activities that were formally part of this international effort.
The main objective of the GEW initiative is to inspire people across the world through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as entrepreneurs and innovators. The activities connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors, introducing them to new possibilities, exciting opportunities and creative ways of thinking.
Commenting on the entrepreneurship activities, Hamad Al Kuwari, Managing Director of QSTP said: “It is great to see that Qatar and QSTP are now actively taking part in this global GEW initiative. Entrepreneurship is at the core of QSTP’s existence, as one of its fundamental objectives is to provide holistic support to start-up companies by offering knowledge and skills, infrastructure and financial backing. We are a relatively young organization, but we have already accumulated a wealth of experience in this field and we are happy to share it with the world.”
During the workshops held at Crowne Plaza hotel in Doha, experts coming from start-up companies based at QSTP presented case studies of their companies’ formation and growth, fundamentals of their business model and factors of success to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex innovation environment.
The distinguished speakers were: Omran Al Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of GreenGulf Inc, a leading clean technology advisory and project development business; Mohamad Takriti, Partner and CEO of iHorizons, an ICT company that develops applications of modern information technologies in business and in human life; and Hussein AlNuweiri, President of Wimatek Systems, a developer of innovative wireless technology solutions.
The initiative kicked off in 2008, launched by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Carl Schramm, the president and CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
