The crew Fath Al Khair 5 is now in Rome, Italy, where they are distributing flyers and gifts to locals and visitors alike to help promote the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This is their first stop after Malta call on the first week of July.
In a video posted by the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara on its Twitter account shows the crew in Rome’s colosseum, Trevi Fountain
and other tourist attractions while interacting with the public, spreading the information about the world’s prestigious event.
As part of its promotion of the sporting event in November-December, they have been asking community members how many stadiums Qatar built to host the World Cup, and upon answering correctly, a football bearing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is being awarded. They will likewise do the same scheme in all European ports they will voyage to.
The brochures and gifts were organised by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy which is responsible for the delivery of the required infrastructure and host country planning and operations for Qatar to host an amazing and historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which accelerates progress towards achieving national development goals and creates a lasting legacy for Qatar, the Middle East, Asia and the world.
Italy is Fath Al Khair 5’s second destination after Malta call. It will pass via ports on its way to Sicily, Naples, and Genoa in addition to Rome. Afterwards, it will head to Monaco, Cannes and Marseille in France before arriving at the port of Barcelona in Spain to complete its tour.
The trip began on July 4 and will conclude by the middle of August.
The cruise course is approximately 5,700km long and lasts for roughly a month and a half. This is not the first time Fath Al Khair has been promoting the World Cup; in 2019, in its fourth edition, the crew also distributed pamphlets and presents to the general public while touring 11 ports in Europe and North Africa to advertise Qatar’s hosting of the quadrennial event and its preparations.
Captain Mohammed Al Sada is in charge of the 19-man crew for this year’s voyage. He previously stated that the Fath Al Khair 5 journey will significantly contribute to Qatar’s promotion as a major athletic and cultural event destination. This will be done through exposing Qatar’s massive
World Cup projects to soccer fans and the general public from various nations that are travelling to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, he explained.
Fath Al Khair was launched in 2013 with the aim to increase understanding of the nation’s marine culture, which is an important aspect of Qatari identity. It fits within Katara’s continuous initiatives to encourage cultural exchange between Qatar and the Arab Gulf region, and the Mediterranean countries.
Moreover, the programme is being done to further promote intercultural dialogue by raising awareness of Qatari history, particularly the maritime heritage.
The World Cup has 32 teams competing including Qatar. The tournament will begin on November 21 and end on December 18, which is also Qatar’s National Day.
The qualified national teams aside from Qatar are Germany, Denmark, Belgium, France, Croatia, Spain, Serbia, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Wales, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Canada, Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Tunisia, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, Iran, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Australia.
