The General Authority of Customs (GAC) has announced it released 329,901 declarations in June – a significant increase from May’s figures which stood at 302,280. The declarations have ranged from 309,016 in March and 312,534 in April.
In its monthly newsletter, the GAC disclosed that it completed 303,840 declarations through the Air Cargo Customs, while the Maritime Customs had 24,974 declarations in the same month. The GAC also maintained its 98 percent performance in terms of declarations released in an hour.
Meanwhile, India remained the top exporting country as China bounced back to be the top importing country after losing the position to the United States in April. The GAC reported 140 seizures, with 9,600 pieces of Captagon pills being the largest seizure of the month.
The Environmental Protection Reserves and Wildlife Department remained the best Government Agency in ‘time of release’ with an average release time of two hours, 57 minutes, recording an increase in its average time which had stood at two hours in the past few months. The GAC also transferred 24,551 declarations to other government agencies in June.
Also, in the newsletter, the GAC announced it received letters of appreciation from the World Customs Organization (WCO) for translating several WCO tools into Arabic text to benefit the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) countries.
These contributions come from the GAC’s Customs Training Center Department in implementing the recommendations of the 53rd Regional Meeting of Customs Managers in the Mena region “by requesting the customs administrations in the countries of the region to support the efforts of introducing the Arabic language to the work of the organisation.”
The Authority translated six guidelines into Arabic to the WCO, including Practical Guidelines on Free Zones, KUDO User Guide, Click National Guide, Click User Manual, WCO Guide for Successful Transition to Live Virtual Training, and Guideline for Post-Clearance Audit (PCA) Volume 1.
