Doha: Minister of Culture of Qatar, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, H E Ridwan Hassan.
The meeting explored opportunities to increase cooperation in the field of culture between the two countries.
The Indonesian ambassador in particular expressed his appreciation for choosing Indonesia to be the partner country in the Year of Culture (YOC) 2023 or Cultural Year 2023.
Every year, Qatar selects countries that have great reputations in the field of culture to become YOC partner countries. Brazil, Japan, India and China are among the countries that have been Qatar’s partner countries in holding the YOC. Indonesia is the first Asean country to become a partner country in the event.
“YOC is an important momentum for Indonesia-Qatar cooperation. For Indonesia, the YOC is not only about cultural cooperation per se, but it must also have an economic effect,” said Ambassador Ridwan Hassan. YOC activities will last for a full year and contain dozens of activities from the fields of film, fashion, education, sports to youth exchanges.
“These activities will not only be held in Qatar but also in Indonesia,” added Ambassador Hassan.
H E Minister of Culture expressed his confidence that the cultural cooperation between the two countries will improve in the coming years. He perceived Indonesia as a big country with great potential.
