Doha: As the country joins in the celebration of International Museum Day today, among the private and distinguished museum in Qatar is Abdulla bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi’s Museum which is considered one of the most important landmarks of the city of Al Dhakhira.
Abdulla bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi said the story of the museum appeared when the old city of Al Dhakhira was demolished. He remembered its history, and its people, so he thought about reviving that folklore, since he had a hobby of collecting stamps, pictures, coins and some antiques.
Al Mohannadi used to keep these collectibles in a room in his house, and when the quantity increased and his room could no longer accommodate it, he thought of making an integrated museum to preserve this heritage.
He noted that a building was designed in line with the Qatari heritage.
The museum includes different sections — the old gate, Qatari al majlis, cafe, al jleeb (the well), bedroom. Old items like tables, radios and old recorders, lute, violin, drum, and the tambourines, in addition to old phones, old tapes and televisions, different types of coffee pots, various teapots, bottles, coffee makers, old bed with sheets, towels and pillows, old mirrors are displayed in them.
