Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC)’s Ambulance Service has continued to provide smooth and hassle-free services during Eid holidays. The Ambulance Service attended to hundreds of patients, some of whom were airlifted, during the holidays.
As part of the preparations for the holidays, the Ambulance Service increased its round-the-clock readiness to ensure efficient response to potential emergencies. This includes the strategic distribution and dynamic deployment of resources on vital roads and areas based on historical data and call and location pattern analysis.
Between May 13 and May 15, the Ambulance Service transported 2,131 patients. Of them, 1,698 had medical emergencies, while eight were air lifted by Lifeflights.
Between 5pm on Thursday and 5pm on Friday, the Ambulance Service received 721 calls while it received 671 calls between 5pm on Wednesday and 5pm on Thursday.
Ali Darwish, Assistant Executive Director of the Ambulance Service, said most calls to the Ambulance Service (999) related to light to moderate cases and no serious cases were reported. He said patients who were evacuated by air were outside Doha in the North, South and West sides.
In an interview with Qatar TV regarding preparedness of the Ambulance Service for the Eid holidays, Darwish said that uninterrupted services were provided to transport COVID-19 and non-COVID patients.
He said the service increases the number of vehicles during the holidays to promptly respond to all the cases, which are usually higher during the holidays.
He said although there are restrictions on gatherings and there were no major events on Eid, the Ambulance Service was prepared to respond to any situation.
Darwish also reminded the public about the importance of giving clear information to the dispatcher including the nature of the emergency and the exact location, follow the operator’s instructions about how to behave at the sight of the emergency and what to do till help arrives.
Callers should pay attention to any questions asked by the operator and answer them as accurately as possible.
