Doha: Voters have lauded the fast voting procedure adopted yesterday for 6th tenure of Central Municipal Council (CMC).
A number of voters at different polling stations observed that voting procedures were fast and smooth and they cast their votes in 10-15 minutes and that time too was consumed due to waiting queues which varied from one polling station to another.
The polling station of the constituency No. 12 Muaither which had been set up at the facility of Muaither Preparatory School for Girls received good number of voters by 10am.
Separate booths were set up for male and female voters at the school to ensure the privacy and smooth voting process. Three candidates Hamad Abdullah Hamad Al Hanzab Al Marri, Hamad Saeed Rashid Al Aswad Al Marri, and Ali Rashid Habuna Al Azba Al Marri were contesting the election from the constituency No.12, Muaither.
“The Supervisory Committee for the Elections of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has made adequate arrangements like polling officials and security personnel to ensure a smooth electoral process,” Ali Al Marri, a young voter told The Peninsula after casting his vote at the polling station.
He said that the voting process this year was very fast and the voters were casting votes without any delay. “I cast my vote in less than 15 minutes,” he said, adding: “It was a very simple voting process. The voters just present their ID cards to get a ballot paper and then wait for a few minutes in queue to cast their votes,” said Ali.
Speaking about the interactions of candidates with the voters, Ali said that the candidates talked with their voters through conducting meetings during the campaign. “This year, the candidates also launched a soft campaign on mobile phones, social networking sites like Snapchat, Instagram, Tweeter and Facebook in a very simple way avoiding intensified outdoor election campaign,” said Ali.
Speaking about the expectations of the voters from CMC members, Ali said that they demand new roads, schools, playgrounds, parks, supermarkets as well as good services. “The former member of CMC from from the constituency No.12, Muaither fulfilled over 80 percent of what he had promised to his voters,” said Ali.
Another voter Abu Ahmad at the same polling station said that voting procedure was very easy that required only ID card. “I forgot my ID card at home, therefore, the polling officer asked me to bring it. I brought my ID card from my residence to cast my vote,” said Abu Ahmad.
Regarding the demand of voters from the next CMC member, he said that they wanted beautification of the area and parks apart from general services at the constituency.
