Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter (EAQC) has become an integral part of the fabric of relationship between Qatar and Australia.
“The Australian embassy in Qatar is proud to be associated with its dynamic and energised EAQC,” said Ambassador of Australia to Qatar H E Jonathan Muir, adding that EAQC and its members will play a leading role in the post-pandemic recovery in Qatar.
The Ambassador was speaking in an event at InterContinental Hotel, West Bay, Doha to mark 6th anniversary of EAQC. He said that engineering and construction sector is critical part of what ties Australia and Qatar together.
“Australian companies have designed or built many of Qatar’s iconic buildings and structures,” said the Ambassador. The evening commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Master Rauf Kidwai of Doha College.
The CEO of Engineers Australia Dr. Bronwyn Evans addressed the gathering via a video recorded message. The other distinguished guests who addressed the event were Technical Office Manager, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Eng. Ahmad Al Ansari; Director, and Vice President, Lean Construction Institute Qatar, Eng. Abdulla Al Baker.
President of EAQC, Tamer Naguib highlighted the role of engineers in building a better future and the role of Australian engineers in the world.
“We, as engineers, play a critical role in the society to make this world a better and safer place. Engineers contribute to every aspect of the design and development in the fields of science, health technology, building and infrastructure, to constantly improve our standard of living,” said Naguib.
With around 100,000 individual members spread over 120 countries, Engineers Australia is the profession’s peak body, being the voice of the profession to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community.
Founded in 1919 as the Institution of Engineers Australia, its work has underpinned the progress of its nation for more than a century and continues to shape and create healthy, just, prosperous, secure and sustainable communities.
Engineers Australia also works towards recognition of individual and engineering outcomes through its Chartered members, an array of awards, assessment of competence, accreditation of engineering courses and support to professionals who wish to immigrate to Australia and make Australia home.
Engineers Australia, keeping an eye on Qatar’s dynamic economy, opened its Qatar Chapter in 2015 and has been operating in Qatar since then. Every year, Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter has been celebrating its anniversary.
During the event, the engineers who obtained their Engineers Australia Chartership and Fellowship were recognised with Certificates of Awards by the Australian Ambassador and Australian Deputy Head of Mission. The event was sponsored by ECG (Engineering Consultants Group) represented by Omar Bahgat and by CCC (Consolidated Contractors Company) represented by Oussama El Jerbi, who were both recognised with a plaque and certificate of appreciation from EAQC.
