Doha: Plant Million Tree, an initiative of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), is receiving a great response from community members, schools and sport clubs since the favorable weather for cultivation has boosted the initiative.

Under the initiative, a number of trees were planted at Doha Golf Club yesterday in the presence and participation of officials from Public Parks Department and the Club.

The members of Al Rayan Sport Club also recently planted local trees in Al Rayan Public Park. The event was organised by the Public Parks Department at MME in cooperation with Al Rayan Sport Club. A number of players from Al Rayan Sport Club planted trees in the park. The event was attended by Director of Public Parks Department, Mohamad Ali Al Khori.

Another similar event was also organised by Public Parks Department in coordination with Qatar Chess Federation in Lahuwaila Public Park at Madinat Khalifa Al Janubia. The members and players of Qatar Chess Federation led by President of Federation Mohamad Ahmad Al Mudahaka planted a number of trees in the park.

A large number of school students are also participating in Plant Million Tree initiative. Thirty students from Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys, Hamza Bin Abdul Muttalib Preparatory School for Boys, Joaan Primary School for Boys and Ayman Secondary School for Girls participated in a campaign which was launched recently under the initiative.

A total of 52 Sidr trees were cultivated in Water Box, a water conservation technique to ensure the sustainability by saving the resources.

The campaign was launched by Nursery Section of Public Parks Department and Al Rayan Municipality to cultivate Sidr trees in Ain Khalid.

#Plant_Million_Tree Initiative was launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, under the State of Qatar’s commitment to Paris Agreement, as trees have special significance in the environmental system and reflect to the human health and lifestyle, and within the context of enhancing their initiatives on limiting the effects of climate change and environmental sustainability efforts.

The Initiative, launched on the sidelines of Qatar’s First International Environmental Exhibition in March 2019, aims at promoting biodiversity, taking advantage of treated water for irrigation, improving air quality of the country and increasing the green patch in a bid to reduce gas emissions.

The initiative is open to all communities, institutions, governmental agencies, private sector, corporate sector, schools, educational entities, youth centers, sport clubs, and all citizens and expatriates.

Interested people including individuals, companies and organisations can register in the initiative through financial or in-kind support or scientific contribution, via e-mail – the Ministry’s Application on smartphones – the Initiative Section at any mall.

The initiative focuses on planting and cultivating seedlings from the Qatari environment, including Sidr, Ghaf, Samar and many more in various locations chosen for this purpose, such as the main road sites– the ring roads in Doha – Al Majd road – Al Shamal Road - Al Khor Coastal Road, industrial cities, sewage plants, treatment units and storage, rainwater harvesting sites, cities and municipal strips, public parks, schools, and residential complexes.
