Doha: As the year's last lunar eclipse is hours away (late tonight), Katara has invited residents to watch the moon passing through different phase as its hides behind Earth and into its shadow.
Althuraya planetarieum will be open tonight for the eclipse, which will begin at 11pm and will last till the early hours of tomorrow morning. An open invitation has been extended for all sky watchers interested in seeing the partial lunar eclipse.
The last lunar eclipse of this year will be a kind of partial eclipse of the moon, as the shadow of the earth will obscure 65.3% of the entire moon disc when the eclipse of the moon reaches its peak.
This is because, the center of the moon, the earth and the sun will be on one straight line so the earth will be in the middle between the sun and the moon, blocking part of the sun falling on the moon, QCH astronomy expert Dr Beshir Marzouk said.
Eclipse will be visible throughout almost of Asia, Europe, Africa, South America and North America. Qatar residents will have chance to see all phases of this lunar eclipse.
All stages of this eclipse will take five hours and thirty-four minutes from the beginning of the eclipse to the end.
The partial phase of the eclipse begins at 11:02 pm. The eclipse will reach its peak after Wednesday midnight in 31 minutes and will end at 2 am. The last phase of the eclipse will end at 3:18 am local time, Marzouk added.
