Doha: The Ministry of Interior recently introduced a service on Metrash2 for submitting requests for sailing marine mediums.
“The service helps greatly in reducing efforts and time of sea goers,” said Head of the Eastern Region Section of the External Regions Department of the General Directorate of Coast and Border Security, Major Ahmed Al Sulaiti.
Speaking to Qatar Radio, Al Sulaiti said that large number of people go to sea during weekend and holidays especially in summer.
“The new online service reduced crowd of sea-goers at registration offices and floating centres,” said Major Al Sulaiti.
The service ‘request sailing transaction’ is available under ‘coast guard services’ icon of Metash2. To avail the service, the applicants are required to provide some information like details of mediums, sailing reason, exit location, sailing location, return location, return time and contact numbers.
Major Ahmed Al Sulaiti asked riders of water scooters to adhere to the safety rules while sailing like wearing life jackets during their presence in the sea, placing registration number on prominent place on the scooter and show to security personnel when they will ask to do so.
He also advised riders to stay away from vital oil and industrial installations at one nautical mile to avoid legal accountability. Major Al Sulaiti said that in case of changing the destination for sailing mediums registered with the General Director of Coasts and Borders Security, the riders should notify the Directorate through the official communication channels.
“The Ministry of Interior equipped General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security with latest devices and equipment to ensure the safety of sea goers and protect Qatari water, said Major Al Sulati.
He said that the Directorate is having advanced boats and international standard radars to keep an eye on Qatari water.
“The air-surveillance section of the Directorate is equipped with modern gyroplanes which help in early detection to any danger,” said Major Al Sulaiti.
He urged sea goers to communicate immediately with control room of General Directorate of Coast and Border Security in case emergencies like breakdown of marine media or any bad weather condition to receive the response on time.
