Over 124,000 students participated in the reading competition from 297 schools, the largest of its kind in Arabic language.

The Reading Olympiad has been distinguished since its third edition by its integration with the “Arab Reading Challenge” initiative, which is the pioneering initiative launched by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

The initiative aims to encourage students around the world to read, through the commitment of more than one million students to participate in reading 50 million books during each academic year.

Addressing the event, Dr. Abdullah Al Marri, Director of the Department of Curricula and Learning Resources, said all public and private schools in the country participated in the “Read and Express” competition in the internal qualifying stage, from which 1,700 male and female students qualified to compete in the “Read” competition at school level in Qatar.

He said about 775 male and female students qualified for the “Express” competition; after that, 103 students qualified to participate in the final qualifiers for the “Arab Reading Challenge” initiative.

Sarah Al Nuaimi lauded the level of participation by the students of Qatar in the 7th Arab Reading Challenge, describing it as an unprecedented participation.

She appreciated the great efforts made by 3,400 male and female supervisors, and the participation of more than 124,000 male and female students in the reading competition, the largest of its kind in the Arabic language, from 297 schools.

Al Nuaimi said that this reflects the achievement of Qatar in spreading the culture of reading among students in particular and citizens in general, and to the position occupied by the “Arab Reading Challenge” initiative.
