Beirut: Lebanon's President General Joseph Aoun stressed the importance of implementing Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire deal with the Israeli side as a pivotal issue in his country.
In a statement released by the Lebanese Presidency Media Office, President Aoun emphasized that amid the challenges facing Lebanon, the implementation of Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire is a central issue requiring urgent attention, stressing that no stability or prosperity will prevail amid the pervasive tension on the southern border.
Normal life cannot return to the affected regions unless international resolutions are enforced to ensure Lebanon's security and stability, along with the withdrawal of the occupier from Lebanon, he said, calling on the international community to uphold its responsibility and pledges and to embody its supportive position for Lebanon to be implemented.
On Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire deal was enacted, mandating the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon's border villages within sixty days. Lebanon's government later extended the deadline to February 18, however, Israeli troops remained at five positions there.
