Hong Kong, Shanghai stocks hit by falling oil prices

Hong Kong: Energy firms plunged on Wednesday as a sell-off in oil extended into Asian trade, sending Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks tumbling.

The Hang Seng Index sank 1.03 percent, or 300.43 points, to close at 28,851.69.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.79 percent, or 27.03 points, to 3,402.52 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 1.00 percent, or 20.17 points, to 2,005.61.
