Doha: Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia to Qatar, will hold an exhibition titled “Forms of Life” by Georgian artist Gela Patiashvili, from June 16 to 29 at Katara Building 47, Gallery 1, from 10am to 10pm.
The exhibition’s title “Forms of Life” refers to the philosophical perception of existence while also emphasising the diversity of existence and presenting the selection of one of Georgian artworks to the audience. The artist feels that the work should be understandable to the viewer and that no explanation or reference to any work of art history is required.
The exhibition was inspired by retrospectives of the artist’s work throughout the last decade. The artist spent the majority of his life in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the south coast of France, which resulted in a bold gamma in his colour palette, freedom of forms, and line choreography.
The works have a narrative nature – they give the audience a sense of character and mood. This is particularly noticeable in the musical instrument series. The fundamentalism of light is understood as an unknowable and unforeseeable journey of the dignity of painting, even in his portraits and still images.
Patiashvili’s works also show great interest and love for a story typical of Middle Eastern cultures, such as the world of animals and birds. In the painting “Hunting with Horses,” he combines the characteristic elements of his work with the dynamism of the scene.
