Doha: The Ministry of Culture (MoC) announced the launch of a major cultural and intellectual event in Doha for the first time called ‘Seminar Series’, which will begin on March 17, 2022.
The event will last for two weeks, in partnership with Qatar University and the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) with the aim of spreading the culture of diversity and giving the elite of society thinkers, intellectuals and graduates opportunities to enhance the intellectual environment.
Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani affirmed that the season works to achieve the ministry’s vision by giving culture its essential role in protecting the identity of society, ensuring its progress, and promoting dialogue between thinkers and generations of intellectuals.
During a meeting with the editors-in-chief of local newspapers, His Excellency noted that the vision of MoC is based on supporting creativity, strengthening partnerships with active institutions in society for a comprehensive approach to societal issues, giving culture its essential role in protecting the identity of society and ensuring its progress, and establishing an intellectual environment that supports creativity and enhances the dialogue between thinkers and generations of intellectuals - serving the renaissance of society.
The seminar series aims to achieve these collective aspirations and enrich the cultural scene, the Minister added. The Minister said that the diversity of ideas and activities during this event reflect the importance of culture in all aspects and for all segments, pointing out that the ministry is working on holding various events throughout the year.
The Minister of Culture highlighted the great role played by the administrations of Qatar University, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and private companies in enhancing the role of culture in society.
Through the ‘Seminars Series,’ the Ministry of Culture (MoC) seeks to establish an intellectual environment that enhances the role of culture and intellectuals in community service, highlighting interlocutors and speakers in a number of fields, and supporting cultural and intellectual activities, as well as building bridges of communication between generations of intellectuals.
The series will launch eight events, in which the Ministry was keen to include intellectual issues relating to heritage, present and the identity of society, and some of the events will be held at Qatar University (QU), while others will be held in the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) with the participation of more than 30 university researchers, university professors, a number of specialists and media professionals, and there will be other events in the coming periods that are being prepared.
The seminar series includes the effectiveness of debates at QU with different guests presenting them to enrich the discussion, leading to various results.
The series will open with a seminar in a debate format on the nature of identities, as well as culture and the numerous identities in the Gulf at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) on March 17.
On March 20, a seminar on the relationship between local dialects and standard Arabic will be held at QU, to discuss the integration and association of local dialects with the Arabic language, as well as a seminar that will address the status of the Arabic language in depth - in terms of its reduced usage in the Arab society, which will also be held at QU on March 21, with the participation of specialized professors to present working papers and discuss various topics.
MoC did not neglect the topics of interest to society in all its spectrums and all directions, in an intellectual way that serves the issues of society, as it will organize a seminar on the topic of moderation in Islam between idealism and reality at QU on March 23, with the participation of professors and specialized researchers. On March 24, MoC will organize a seminar on the contrast between the east and west, as well as the concept of universality at ACRPS, in which a historical account of the extent of the relationship between Arabs and the West will be presented.
On March 28, a seminar on the extent of differences and levels of songs and poetry will be held QU, with the aim of reaching the points of convergence and commonalities between the poem and the song, and what the paradoxes are, in addition to the decline in the levels of each.
On March 29, the ministry will be organizing a seminar on Qatari cultural elites and their role in enriching the cultural scene at QU, with the participation of elites from the community, including writers, media professionals, and thinkers who provide a platform for convergence of ideas, recommendations, and constructive visions that ensure the formation of a meaningful relationship and partnership to serve culture in general.
At the conclusion of the events - on March 31, the ministry will organize a Social Media Forum, which will host a number of Qatari influencers, who will enter into direct communication with the public from the community, with the aim of exchanging ideas, and discussing how to create awareness and positive influence in an era where social networking sites are witnessing great popularity for news and opinions, and contribute to the dissemination of information and trends, making the ministry’s role in providing a platform as a forum for influencers, to be ambassadors of positive impact.
