Central Municipal Council (CMC) Elections, registration for new voters began on Sunday, at all constituencies’ headquarters.
Twenty-nine headquarters opened its doors for citizens to register for CMC polls. Registration can also be done through Metrash2 where voters receive an SMS on completion of the registration procedure.
The first two days of the registration witnessed a large turnout of citizens while it varied from constituency to constituency.
The registration is expected to be done more through Metrash2 as compared to physical registration at electoral constituencies because it is easier. A candidate for a CMC constituency must be a registered voter of that particular constituency.
Head of technical committee for the sixth session of CMC elections in 2019, Brigadier Abdul Rahman Ali Al Maliki, said that there are two ways for people to know about the headquarters of their constituency; through the Ministry of Interior website or through Metrash2.
In most of the areas, sign boards have been fixed to guide people to the locations of headquarters of constituencies. The headquarters are fully equipped with all requirements for voter registration to ensure smooth procedures.
The Supervisory Committee for the elections of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) also recently inaugurated the website for the sixth CMC elections in 2019.
The Committee advised all citizens who have not registered in the voters’ lists previously to initiate the registration process in their respective constituency. The registration will continue till January 22.
Mansour bin Ahmed bin Yousef Al Khater (pictured), Council Member of Al Wakra said that the registration is a great opportunity for citizens to choose the candidate to represent them in the CMC.
Regarding question on CMC members and their efforts, he told The Peninsula: “I completed about 65 percent of the election manifesto and despite that there were still some shortcomings in the subject of education but anyone who knows Al Wakra will know that it witnessed a great development in recent years and became the second largest city of Qatar after Doha.”
