Gambian President’s visit to bolster bilateral cooperation: Diplomat

Doha: The recent visit of the President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, to Doha will further expand bilateral relations between the two countries and increase their desire to strengthen ties in the fields of economy, tourism among others.

“The President’s visit clearly reflects the desire of the two countries to strengthen relations in economic, tourism, agriculture sectors. Many efforts were made in this area where many agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed during the visit,” said Musa Muhammad Bah, the Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in Qatar.

During recent visit of the President, Qatar and The Gambia signed a number of pacts: One on mutual administrative assistance for the optimal application of the customs law and for the suppression, investigation and control of customs violations, and the other on mutual inclusion of land in the satellite service area.

Both countries also signed two memorandums of understanding for cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, and for legal cooperation between the Ministries of Justice in both countries.

Commenting on expected impact of the visit, the Counsellor said: “The cooperation between the two countries may focus more on agriculture and tourism sectors which will be attractive for Qatari investors. The President Adama Barrow called on Qatari businessmen to invest in The Gambia and benefit from the opportunities it offers in various sectors.” 

Regarding Qatar’s preparations for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and The Gambia’s support to Qatar in this regard, Musa Bah pointed out that President Barrow praised Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup after seeing its preparations in the field, adding that it will be a very successful sporting event as Qatar has built stadiums and sports facilities of international standards and ahead of schedule.

He also has praised the economic and educational progress in Qatar. “Qatar’s economic policies are commendable. This is why President Barrow keened to visit Qatar Foundation (QF), where he received an insight into QF’s unique environment.”
