The breakthrough came in 2007 when he arrived in Doha and crossed paths with Ferry Baltazar, the owner of OneRoots Records, an independent recording studio in the Philippines.

The Doha-based artist saw in Baltazar a chance to bring his music to life and reached out, sharing his demo for “Preno.” Fate stepped in when he couldn’t return to the Philippines due to work commitments, leading to the unique collaboration of recording his vocals remotely while Baltazar mixed the tracks.
In September of the previous year, “Preno” was released on various digital music platforms, including Spotify, YouTube, and Amazon Music. It didn’t take long for the song to gain popularity, with an increasing number of listeners resonating with its inspiring message.
The dream of hearing his music on the radio became a reality when his friend requested his hit song on Qabayan Radio, the sole Filipino radio station in Doha. On March 4 this year, the song entered the top 8 of the station’s weekly hit chart, a feat no other local artist had accomplished since its inception three years ago.

The success of “Preno” can be attributed not only to its catchy melody but also to its profound meaning. Valdez revealed that the song reflects a pivotal moment in his life when he realised the importance of pausing and letting a higher power take control. Amidst the fast-paced lifestyle he experienced while working in Olongapo, the song served as a reminder to slow down and trust the divine plan. What began as a personal expression evolved into an anthem that struck a chord with listeners globally.
As an international music artist, breaking records and becoming the first local artist to reach the top spot in Qabayan Radio’s weekly hit chart, Valdez expresses immense gratitude. Beyond personal satisfaction, he acknowledges that the purpose of his fame lies in the positive impact the song has had on others. Messages from fans pouring in, stating how “Preno” has inspired and uplifted them, further fuel his happiness and sense of fulfillment.
With “Preno” making waves, Valdez has released two more songs, including “Paulit-ulit lang” (Over and over again), which have also entered the top ten most requested songs of the week on Qabayan Radio. This achievement motivates him to continue pursuing his passion for music, as he prepares to release a collection of thirteen more songs this year.
“I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to encounter many exceptionally talented local artists. When I reached the pinnacle of fame, I couldn’t contain my excitement, leading me to retreat to my room and offer a prayer,” he told The Peninsula.
“I was ecstatic, experiencing an indescribable feeling of euphoria, but I reminded myself to remain humble and down-to-earth. Every time there’s a countdown or my song makes it to the top ten, I still feel a sense of nervousness and overwhelming emotions, as I haven’t fully accustomed myself to such success.”
Valdez also conveyed his appreciation to Qatar: “I am grateful to this country for providing me with not only employment opportunities but also a platform to share my music with a wider audience.”
