Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, opened yesterday a public park in Al Thakhira City.
A walkway with a parallel track for bicycle riders was also inaugurated at Al Thakhira Corniche. The projects ‘Sharq Garden’ and ‘Al Thakhira Walkway’ were built by Al Thakhira Municipality with the support of Ras Laffan Industrial Community Outreach Program at a cost of QR2.5m.
The opening ceremony was attended by Rashid Jassim Al Muraikhi, an expert at the office of the Director of Al Thakhira Municipality; Abdullatif Ibrhaim Al Muhannadi, Head of Ras Laffan Industrial Community Outreach Program; Hamad bin Lahdan Al Muhannadi, Vice-Chairman of Central Municipal Council (CMC); Sheikha Dana Rashid Al Thani from Ras Laffan Industrial Community Outreach Program.
The first project ‘Sharq Garden’ was built in a stretch of 4,841 sqm with 3,500 sqm green areas. The park has 16 big Sidr trees and three areas with flower plans. The walkway is two metre wide and 320 metre long. There are three big shaded areas, two play areas for children and parking lots.
The second project walkway was built on the Corniche which is 1,800 metre long and three metre wide with a parallel track for bicycle riders.
Benches with 60 seating arrangements were set up along the walkway. Play areas were developed in 1,250 sqm area where different types of games were installed for the children.
“The projects ‘Sharq Garden’ and ‘Al Thakhira Walkway’ were developed in a year at a cost of about QR2.5m,” Rashid Jassim Al Muraikhi told The Peninsula.
He said that both the projects served the residents of Al Thakhira city and those from neighbouring areas.
“The walkway was built at Al Thakhira Corniche which attracts a big number of visitors from all over the country specially during weekend and holidays,” said Al Muraikhi.
Sheikha Dana Rashid Al Thani said that ‘Sharq Garden’ and ‘Al Thakhira Walkway’ are part of the projects being developed with the support of the programme at the northern part of the country.
