Argentina has eased rules to attract Qatari investments

Doha: Argentina has eased rules to attract investments from Qatar and has showed keenness to further strengthen relations in many sectors between two countries.

“I think we improved the conditions that all the investors from Qatar would need to be present in Argentina,” said Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Jorge Faurie, at a press conference held yesterday here.

He said that Argentina is looking to increase trade. “We are also very much interested in further possibility of investment from Qatar to Argentina. Today the parliament of Argentina is considering two agreements on potential investment of Qatar to Argentina and exemption of double taxation between two countries,” said the Minister. 

He said that mutual visits helped improve the relations between both countries. “Two months ago, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Argentina. There are many areas where Qatar and Argentina can collaborate to enhance the trade relations,” said Faurie. 

The Minister said his current visit to Doha comes within the framework of improving bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that his visit to Doha focused on exploring investment opportunities and increasing trade relations between the two countries, while expressing his country’s commitment to implement the agreements signed with the State of Qatar, especially the agreements to encourage and protect mutual investments.

He added that Argentina has promising opportunities to invest in all fields of “infrastructure, traditional and renewable energy and tourism. “It also provides huge economic and commercial opportunities for the State of Qatar to expand its foreign investments and diversify its food and industrial resources. Argentina is an important partner for achieving national food security and contributing to its further development,” he said.

He pointed out that he has met with H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and they discussed the prospects of cooperation in many fields of education, technology and research development between the two friendly countries, and they also discussed the mechanisms of exchange of biotechnology expertise, scientific research, and education in general.

The Argentinian Foreign Minister invited Qatar Foundation to participate in South-South Cooperation Expo Builds Momentum for BAPA+40 hosted by Buenos Aires in March under the auspices of the United Nations. 

The event, which was launched 40 years ago, includes most of the UN member states as well as civil society organisations and institutions of public interest in order to provide support and strengthen cooperation between developed and developing countries. The upcoming meeting will review what has been achieved since its inception and review technical support and exchange of experiences among the participating countries.

He expressed his country’s readiness to help Qatar organise the 2022-World Cup when it is asked to do so, pointing out that his country will benefit greatly from this experience, especially as it will present in cooperation with Uruguay and Paraguay a joint file to host the World Cup 2030.

The Minister also stressed the importance of putting an end to the current Gulf crisis and the need for the parties to sit at the dialogue table, pointing out that his country has good relations with all countries in the region.
