Doha: Qatar began administering the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine to all those who were vaccinated with the first dose when the campaign began on December 23.

Selected patients - those over 70-year-old, adults in chronic care, those with severe chronic diseases and frontlineworkers - were the priority group who were given the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Dr Abdullah Al Kubaisi, the former president of Qatar University, was among those who received the second dose. He was also the first Qatari citizen to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid 19 vaccine two weeks back.

The second person in Qatar and first expatriate to receive the first dose, 88-year-old Syrian, Mohammed Frazat, was also given his second dose today.

Ten health centres in the country are now vaccinating people over 65 age and some healthcare staff. This is the first phase of vaccination which will continue until January 31.

Meanwhile, Qatar is also expecting to receive the second Covid-19 vaccine Moderna within the coming weeks.
