In a bid to train people with disabilities and enable them to get jobs in various organisations in the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) yesterday organised the first security exhibition for people with special needs within the “Messengers of Peace" initiative.
As many as 13 departments from MoI take part in the four-day exhibition, among them include the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, Traffic Department, Civil Defence, General Administration of Drug Enforcement, Al Fazaa, Preventive Security Department, Juvenile Police, Dogs Section, Medical Services Department, Human Rights, General Directorate of Passports and Police Sports Federation.
The event is being organised in cooperation with the Scout and Guide Association of Qatar and will continue until January 16. Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Scout and Guide Association of Qatar; and Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah Al Shahwani, opened the exhibition at the association’s headquarters.
The Representative-General for Qatar Scouts and Guides Association, Jassim Mohammad Al Hardan, and a number of officers of MoI attended the event. After the opening ceremony, the guests visited the pavilions of the participating departments and listened to a brief explanation of the work of those departments and the security tasks they carry out to maintain security in the country. The attendees also witnessed a presentation of police dogs presented by the Police Canine Section at the Department of Criminal Evidence and Information, in which they showcased the skills of police dogs and their role in helping security men to detect crimes.
Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi thanked MoI for organising the first security exhibition for people with special needs, in coordination with the Qatar Scouts, and said that such activities are not new to MoI through its various departments and educational programmes that are intended to serve the public.
He said: “Our sons and daughters who will visit this exhibition will get a lot of benefit from it as the exhibition is attended by many departments of the Ministry.”
Brigadier Mohamed Abdullah Al Shahwani from the Public Security Department said that MoI was always keen to support such initiatives and participated in them by providing security awareness and introducing the services that it provide in the State.
Al Shahwani praised cooperation between the Ministry and civil society institutions, including the Qatar Scout and Guide Association, which launched an important initiative for people with special needs, with an aim of training and qualifying them to participate in building the country and preserving its achievements.
