The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is set to start upgrading of Nuaija Intersection on D-Ring Road and the infrastructural improvements on completion will reduce traffic congestion.

“Ashghal will start improvements on Nuaija Intersection on D-Ring Road, known as the Mall Intersection, to include increasing the number of lanes to four in each direction instead of three, thereby reducing traffic congestion,” Ashghal tweeted yesterday.

It is part of D-Ring Road upgrading project. “Nuaija Intersection is located within the scope of D-Ring Road Upgrade Project, which includes the development of Fereej Al Ali Intersection (Al Tadamon), Nuaija Intersection (The Mall) and the intersection known as Lulu Intersection,” Ashghal said in another tweet.

Upon completion, the Public Works Authority said, the junction will enhance traffic movement on both Najma Street and D-Ring Road, and it will also facilitate access to Al Hilal, Old Airport, Nuaija, Al Thumama and E-Ring Road.

It is pertinent to mention that in September this year, Ashghal had started the upgrading works of Al Tadamon Intersection, as part of the D- Ring Road development works and converting the traffic signal into a two-level intersection.

Ashghal further said that in order to facilitate the works of Nuaija Intersection, traffic movement at the intersection will change and one lane heading towards the south and north will be removed for a period of 6 months, starting from tomorrow.

Improvement works on D -Ring Road include developing rainwater drainage networks to raise the efficiency of drainage networks in the area, by constructing a tunnel to drain rainwater with a total length of about 3.5 km.

Ashghal said that the project also involves the implementation of a shared pedestrian and cycling paths along the 4.5 km D Ring Road on both sides in addition to afforestation woks throughout the project.

It is worth mentioning that Ashghal has already begun to develop the intersection known as the Lulu Intersection, where traffic signals intersection will be improved, by allowing free flow of traffic coming from the Airport Road intersection, towards the Fereej Al Ali Intersection along the D Ring Road while keeping the traffic signal in the other direction.
