Doha: The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, along with the world athletics governing body, IAAF yesterday announced the launch of the ticket sales for next year’s spectacle.
With 319 more days to go until the Qatari capital hosts the world athletics extravaganza for the first time in the Gulf region, Dahlan Al Hamad, Director-General of the LOC and Vice-President of the IAAF, made the announcement at a press conference which took place in Doha.
Fans across the world can now reserve tickets for the showpiece event through the official championships website (tickets.iaafworldathleticschamps.com).
There are various innovative ticketing options available for those who wish to see the global stars in action during the September 27 – October 6, 2019 event and these include finish line seats, traditional Arab Majlis seating, tickets that allow fans to follow a particular champion and taster options priced from QR60.
During yesterday’s launch, Director of Marketing and Communications for Doha Worlds, Sheikha Asma Al Thani said that the LOC has offered attractive family and group discounts.
Also, in the coming months, they will launch official championship travel packages.
Easy access from over 110 global destinations, a simple visa process and the centrally located Khalifa International Stadium will take the fans’ experience to a whole new level.
According to Al Hamad, fans from all over the world are already keen to attend the Championship, which is nothing like Qatar or any other country in the region has hosted before.
The interest is growing due to a host of new features, such as the first-ever midnight marathon and a first 4x400m mixed relay in an IAAF World Championships, each designed to maximise fan entertainment and global reach. In addition to that, all events will take place in the evening sessions
“With 45 weeks to go, everything is now in place to guarantee the best possible experience for the 3,500 athletes and officials from more than 200 nations. But equally important is the fan experience and the memories we create for those attending. A world-class stadium needs a vibrant atmosphere. Athletes need to feed off that energy. Beyond the physical infrastructure, the welcome from the host nation and the excitement in the stadium, that is what people remember most. This will be our focus and we will work with our partners and the IAAF to inspire and welcome as many fans as possible from our own community and beyond,” Al Hamad said.
Earlier, yesterday, the IAAF released the revised qualification system for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, which returns to the existing process of entry standards. The IAAF Council will then approve the specific entry standards at its meeting in Monaco on December 3-4.
