Doha: The new expansion made at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) will positively impact the care provided to patients and decrease waiting time.

The Day Care Unit has greatly expanded, from 16 to 52 beds, while the number of beds at the Urgent Care Unit has been increased from six to 10. Also, expansion saw establishment of 37 outpatient clinics outside NCCCR to see cancer survivors and patients with haematology problems and added 10 new beds for Medical Oncology.

Medical Director of NCCCR, Dr. Mohamed Salem Al Hassan in a video message said that the new expansion will reduce the waiting time and patients will be able to get treatment in a more comfortable atmosphere. He highlighted that services at NCCCR, the premier cancer hospital, have transformed in recent years to provide best care to people in Qatar.

NCCCR is part of Hamad Medical Corporation and looks after cancer patients who require ongoing treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. NCCCR also treats blood conditions.

“The Day Care Unit has greatly expanded, from 16 to 52 beds, which will positively impact the care provided to patients. Also chemotherapy services have also been enhanced,” he said.

“In the last four months, we have tripled the number of beds in the Day Care Unit, so patients need not wait for a longer time and they can get chemotherapy in a very comfortable atmosphere. We have also been able to decrease the waiting time at the Outpatient Clinic. All these expansions will enhance patient care and services,” he added.

Deputy Medical Director and Chair of Radiation Oncology at NCCCR, Dr. Noora Al Hammadi, said that Pain Management and Palliative Care Clinic, Pharmacy Lead Clinic, and a Psychotherapy Clinic have been included into the Outpatient Department.

Also 37 Outpatient Clinics outside NCCCR are situated in the Ambulatory Care Center, Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, and the Women’s Wellness and Research Center.

“We established clinics outside the NCCCR mainly for cancer survivors. We will be seeing patients who need acute care and chemotherapy services at NCCCR. All survivors and hematology related conditions will be seen at the outside clinics,” said Dr. Al Hammadi.

“This will help to accommodate more patients and reduce the waiting time,” she said.  NCCCR focuses on delivering high quality and safe patient care and at the same time adopts cutting edge technology and the latest methodologies of providing world class cancer therapies.
