Qatar Museums (QM) continues to accept applications for its three open call programmes namely Jedariart, 5/6 initiative, and Student initiative aimed to make the country’s walls more vibrant.
The second edition of Jedariart brings artists together to add vibrancy and meaning to the walls across Doha through murals and street art. The programme is an ongoing open call.
It aims to revitalise urban regions and encourage creative involvement in selected neighbourhoods, creating new landmarks for people to travel to and see across the city. Additionally, it fits into Qatar Museums’ continued dedication to fostering homegrown talent and advancing public art.
To participate at Jedariart, the artist must be a resident of Qatar, and submit a proposal that includes: biography, portfolio, and concept and sketch of a proposal which is optional.
QM is also calling on artists to propose a permanent public artwork that speaks to the local communities through its 5/6 initiative programme.
Among the criteria are: artists will only be considered if their proposal meets the checklist at a minimum, artists can be at any stage of their career but must possess strong skills to execute the proposed project.
Also, the opportunity is for artists residing in Qatar (applicants must hold a valid Qatar residence permit), and successful applicants will receive a commission contract to execute the proposed public artwork. Deadline of application is on August 5.
Meanwhile, the Student Initiative invites students and alumni to propose a permanent or temporary public artwork.
“For this year’s Student Initiative, we encourage students and alumni to think about the dialogue they want to spark through their work. The selected artist will be commissioned to create their proposal with the support of the Public Art team,” QM said in a statement on its website.
Criteria include: students and alumni will only be considered if their proposal meets the checklist at a minimum; students can submit as individuals or groups; the artwork proposed must be fabricated locally; sculptures, installations, mosaic tiles, and mixed media are accepted; artists must be over 18 or have graduated within the last two years.
And, artists must possess strong skills to execute the proposed project and may have a mentor as support; and artists should be residing in Qatar and must hold a valid Qatar residence permit.
Deadline of application for both 5/6 and Student initiatives is on August 5. Applications can be made through Qatar Museums website, qm.org.qa.
