Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) Chairperson, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has stressed the significant role of youth in Qatar in nation-building.

Speaking during the Qatar Creates – Teen Council Expo held on Friday at Khalifa International Stadium, Sheikha Al Mayassa described the Council as a platform that will give young people the opportunity to create and bring ideas to life.

“Our new initiative, Qatar Creates – Teen Council, will bring together young people who want to take part in Qatar’s cultural life by engaging in Qatar Museums’ future endeavours. It wi ll create a place for youth to gather, collaborate and plan events for teenagers from all over the country,” she said.

“We look forward to welcoming you, so I encourage you to sign up! You will have a dedicated space at the newly-renovated Museum of Islamic Art as well as spaces in each of our museums and cultural institutions. Over time, you will be working with local stakeholders to support these initiatives,” Sheikha Al Mayassa added.

Hundreds of youths gathered at the Expo to learn about the volunteering opportunities at Qatar Museums, especially for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Sheikha Al Mayassa said this is another way that young people “can be ambassador for Qatar’s culture offerings during this exciting time.”

Teens can explore a vast selection of opportunities to suit their interest and passion. From content creation to social media to hosting guests and leading tourists at museums and public art installations across Doha.

“You are all representations of the world, you come from different parts of the world, you speak different languages, have local roots in Qatar, yet a global outlook to the world, you are the perfect ambassadors for Qatar and we are here to help you,” she explained.

Sheikha Al Mayassa also mentioned the protection of the planet, a topic she is passionate about. She acknowledged the presence of the youth which demonstrates a sense of responsibility towards the nation and their eagerness towards the common good.

Qatar Museums’ Teen Volunteering Programme offers youth in the country the opportunity to work under the guidance of museum staff, learning invaluable life skills while strengthening their independence and boosting self-confidence. Volunteering options include working as a visitor guide, museum guide, information desk officer, monitoring and evaluation assistant, or providing programming and visitor services and events support.
