‘Depressed’ Emirati drank petrol, set himself on fire and now fighting for life

Sharjah Police is investigating an incident in which 32-year-old Emirati national drank petrol and set himself on fire, reports Khaleej Times.

The man in question got first degree burns after the incident.

Police said they received a call at 9:30pm Wednesday at the operation room of Al Madam police station, which dispatched a team of officers, who found the man in critical situation.

The man was taken to Al Dhaid Hospital, where he is currently surviving on artificial respiration

Police said the man was believed to be suffocated, as he inhaled the smoke.  His family members are being interrogated.

According to the police, the man was suffering from mental problems and this was his second attempt at suicide. He had previously jumped from a high-rise, but was saved.
