The merger of IT firms Dell and EMC has helped the new entity, Dell EMC, to strengthen its market share in Qatar. After the merger the company has not cut employee strength in the region but has invested more to boost its growth, said a senior Dell EMC official.
“The highlight of the merger was that there was no overlapping in terms of products, resources and markets. Now we have more products for our customers. Companies usually want to work with few suppliers,” said Habib Mahakian, Vice President, Gulf & Pakistan at Dell EMC speaking at the press conference held at St Regis yesterday. “We now control around 50 percent in Qatar’s market,” he added.
Dell Technologies, in September last year, had announced completion of the acquisition of EMC Corporation. Dell EMC yesterday hosted its first and biggest event ‘Let the Transformation Begin’  at the St Regis Hotel. “As Qatar prepares to stand at the forefront of digitization powered by its National Vision 2030, it is imperative for every organization to transform the way they approach their IT strategy.  With IT infrastructure becoming critical to ensure sustainable growth for both public and private organisations like, Dell EMC is strongly positioned to help organisations in Qatar capitalise on this next wave of industry change,” said Mahakian.
A recent survey by the company revealed that implementation of digital transformation is low in the GCC region. “According to recent findings of a survey conducted by Dell Technologies across 16 countries and 12 industries including the GCC region, only 4 percent of businesses surveyed have implemented digital transformation initiatives, whereas 37 percent of businesses are still planning digital investments ,” said Mohammed Amin, Senior Vice President, Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Dell EMC.
