Over 7,000 students participate in ALF’s ‘Oasis of Knowledge and Competitions’

Doha: Over 7,000 students from 105 government and private schools participated in the ‘Oasis of Knowledge and Competitions’ the world’s biggest competition of its kind organised by Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF).

The six-day event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

The winners were honoured by Sheikh Faisal bin Qasim Al Thani, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ALF and Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education at the conclusion ceremony held at QNCC on Sunday.

The contests held under the ‘Oasis of Knowledge and Competitions’ included international competitions like ‘Odyssey of the Mind’, ‘Destination Imagination’ and ‘Qudorat’ program which was developed by ALF for future leadership of Qatar.

Addressing the event, Sheikh Faisal bin Qasim Al Thani said that Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation organised such events under its social responsibility to support the country.

“It is our duty to do our best to support our nation and children,” said Sheikh Faisal adding that Qatari students won many international competitions held all over the world.  

Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education said that Oasis of knowledge and competitions focused on innovation and the skill development of the students. 

“The big number of participation to the event indicated that our new generation is keen for learning and competing for excellence,” said  Al Nuaimi.

Abdul Latif Al Yafei, Director General of Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation said that this year’s event brought some of the world’s biggest competitions around the world under one roof with very prominent and successful national competitions.

“These include the ‘Odyssey of the Mind’, ‘Destination Imagination’, as well as ‘Qudorat’ program which were developed by ALF for the future leaders of Qatar, and Sheikh Faisal Chess Competition in partnership with Qatar Chess Federation, on top we had over 100 workshops and training sessions and way over 7,000 attendees,” said Yafei. 

He said that ALF, strive to make Qatar the capital of world class education, a place where scholars of all ages come together to celebrate knowledge. “I believe that this week has been a leap in the right direction towards making our vision a reality,” said Al Yafei.
