Doha: The Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, yesterday honoured the riders of the Qatari showjumping squad for qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics and the FEI Nations Cup Jumping Finals.
Sheikh Saoud congratulated the Qatari riders and lauded their achievement of winning the qualification event that was held in UAE with participation of 12 teams, including Qatar, UAE, KSA, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Syria, Ukraine, Germany, France, the Netherland and Italy.
Delighted by the achievement, the QOC Secretary General extended his appreciation to the Emir, H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani and H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for their support to the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).
For his part, Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, President of the QEF, also thanked the Emir and Sheikh Joaan for their support to the Qatari sport in general and equestrian sports in particular.
Al Attiyah also extended his appreciation for the QOC and Sheikh Saoud for his support to the QEF.
Jan Tops, Qatar team coach, said after the squad won in the UAE: “After this, some of our horses will have a rest and some will go to the Longines FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas — two of our riders will be competing there. All our riders have two rides, which helps us significantly plan who is to go where. Despite winning the Asian Games, it was really one of our main objectives to qualify for the Furusiyya Final in Barcelona.”
