Nine embassies are to participate in this year’s Doha International Book Fair which will begin tomorrow (January 13) at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
Among them are Embassies of Palestine, Russia, Italy, France, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Syria, and South Korea.
A total of 37 participating countries are joining in the 31st book fair, including the guest of honour, the United States.
In a Tweet, the US Embassy in Qatar said: “Stop by our booth to check our book collection and don’t forget to attend our events!.”
In an interview with Qatar TV, Book Fair Director Jassim Albuenain, said: “We want the book fair to be the connection between the reader and the writer.”
The book fair is being held under the theme “Knowledge is Light.”
Albuenain explained that “knowledge is the basis for the progress and development of countries and it contributes to the development of the individual and society as it lights the way for students and guides interactions among individuals.”
He also stressed that knowledge “provides appropriate solutions to the problems that people face in various practical and life aspects.”
“The 31st Doha International Book Fair will bring together students and researchers as well as avid readers, providing them with various books from different countries around the world, and in multiple languages, which in turn contributes to advancing the pace of learning in the community,” the Director explained.
The Doha International Book Fair 2022 will be held to showcase the human journey of exploration and learning. It will introduce the latest and most recent publications that reflect human’s creative and reflective knowledge across all fields. The fair offers a window of knowledge to researchers, innovators, scientists, and writers to develop societies and improve lives.
It is organised by the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center, under the supervision of Ministry of Culture and will run from January 13 to 22, from 9am to 10pm daily except for Friday where it will open from 3pm to 10pm. The exhibition will be limited to vaccinated people including children 12 years and over who completed 14 days after taking second dose or recovered from COVID-19 for a period of no less than 12 months.
