GAC releases nearly 300,000 declarations in October

The General Authority of Customs (GAC) released its monthly statistics for October, contained in its monthly newsletter. According to the released data, the number of total customs declaration released reached 299,899.

The report also shows that the top importing country for October was United States (overtaking China, which held this position in September), while the top exporting country remained India. The Customs Authority also released 99% declarations in an hour, the same as September figures.

The Customs Authority also confiscated 2,300 of hashish; a banned drug got from cannabis. The authority made 199 seizure reports.

The completed customs declaration in air cargo stood at 27,614, a significant drop from September’s figures, 262,167. In the maritime customs, 24,261 completed customs declarations were made, an increase from September.

The statistics also disclosed that the number of customs declarations transferred to government agencies reached 25,502. In contrast, the best government agency in ‘time of release’ was the Environmental Protection
Reserves & Wildlife Department, whose average release time was one hour.

In the newsletter, the Director of Customs Department at Hamad International Airport Ajab Mansour Al Qahtani confirmed that the custom points operate 24 hours in the airport’s private aircraft area. The Director also noted that the department takes particular care in implementing COVID-19 preventive measures to ensure travellers’ and employees’ safety.

The Customs Authority also announced it has adopted cloud computing and investing in Microsoft’s Azure electronic cloud for its new website. The project was implemented in three months.
