Preparations for Expo 2023 Doha finalised

Doha, Qatar: With less than a month to go, Commissioner Generals from countries participating in Expo 2023 Doha gathered in Doha yesterday, to discuss cooperation and finalise preparations for this landmark international event.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of participants from across the globe to ensure the success of the first A1 horticultural exhibition held in the MENA region.

Discussions at the meeting focused on fostering an environment of collaboration and partnership ahead of the awaited Expo 2023 Doha. Participants also addressed all organisational aspects, including zone operation and site service, sponsorship activation, volunteer programs and sustainability initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Expo 2023 Doha Commissioner General H E Bader Al Dafa emphasised on the importance of the International Participants Meeting.

He noted that Expo 2023 Doha is an unprecedented opportunity for countries around the world to showcase their creativity, agricultural and horticultural practices, culture, and heritage, as well as their collective commitment to deliver a successful event that will leave a lasting impact on global environmental cooperation. Speaking to media persons, Al Dafa said that 46 commissioner generals representing the participating countries attended the International Participants Meeting.

He said that the meeting addressed the organisational and logistical procedures for the Expo 2023 Doha, which will open within three weeks.

“The meeting also aims a site visit of this important expo which is going to organise first time in a desert country,” said Al Dafa.

He said that the number of participants in the exhibition reached 80 countries, in addition to eight international organisations, where the participants will showcase their best in the fields of modern agricultural techniques, water extraction and desalination techniques.

“The expo will also host entertainment and musical programmes, folk group and international food outlets offering delicious cuisines among many other activities,” said Al Dafa.

Speaking about the readiness of the expo, he said that the almost all pavilions and facilities are ready to launch the Expo 2023 Doha on scheduled time – October 2, 2023. Address the same event, Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha, Mohamed Ali Al Khoury said that a larger number of international participation is evidence of the commitment of all participants from all over the world to ensure the success of the first horticultural exhibition, which is held in a desert climate in GCC and North Africa.

He said that the meeting with the Commissioners-General of the participating countries constitutes an important step to complete the final preparations for the upcoming global event.

Al Khoury said that the expo is based on four main themes which are: modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness, and sustainability, through a series of events and unique promotional activities.

He said that this exhibition confirms Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation, in line with its National Vision 2030.

Al Khoury said that Qatar also welcomes its distinguished guests and visitors to present and discuss the best innovative solutions designed to confront the major environmental challenges facing the region and the world today.

“By hosting Expo 2023 Doha, we aim to encourage meaningful dialogue on environmental issues and strengthen international partnerships within the framework of our unity and shared commitment to building a greener world,” said Al Khoury.

Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Dimitri S. Kerkentzes said: “Expo 2023 Doha embodies our shared commitment to mitigate desertification and its far-reaching consequences by leveraging education and innovative solutions and doubling down on international cooperation in the fight against climate change.”

He expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for all the efforts made by Qatar to organize this historic event and to host participants from different countries of the world. Kerkentzes noted that it is good for the exhibition to be organized in a desert environment, to emphasise the importance of greening the desert to reach a better environment.

Secretary General of AIPH, Tim Briercliffe said that Trees, plants and flowers play an important role in purifying the air, stopping floods and mitigating the effects of climate change, in addition to their importance in improving the health and well-being of people.

“The climate change we are currently witnessing forces us to adapt and coexist with it, stressing on the need to bring about solutions that make our world full of life,” said Briercliffe.

The attendees also conducted a site visit to Expo 2023 Doha, allowing them to witness firsthand the remarkable progress and facilities that will welcome millions of visitors from around the globe.

With the theme “Green Desert, Better Environment,” Expo 2023 Doha will address four key themes: Modern Agriculture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Awareness, and Sustainability through unique exhibitions, events and activations that will be held over 6 months.

Running for 179 days from October 2, 2023 till March 28, 2024 and aiming to reach more than 3 million visitors, Expo Doha 2023 will offer guests with an opportunity to visit ornamental gardens, attend public debates, conferences, live shows and enjoy art and culinary performances in the dedicated area in Al Bidda Park spanning across 1.7M square metres and facing the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf.
