Doha: Qatar Digital Government (QDG) programme is being executed at an impressive pace in the country. During Q2 of this year, 18.6 PB data was exchanged between government entities via Government Network.
Government Network is part of shared services developed for use by government entities to increase efficiency, reduce effort, standardise procedures, and make the best use of ICT resources.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) yesterday said in a tweet that 6.4 PB data was exchanged in April 2021, while 5.7 PB and 6.5 PB data was exchanged in May and June respectively.
The Ministries across the government have come together to accelerate digital government initiatives to make Qatar’s government more efficient, effective, accessible, and customer-centric.
Qatar Digital Government programme better serves individuals and businesses, creates efficiency in government administration, and develops a more open government with enhanced participation of citizens and residents.
One petabyte is equal to 1,000 TBs and precedes the exabyte unit of memory measurement while one terabyte is equal to 1,000 GBs and precedes the petabyte (PB) unit of memory measurement.
The Government Network enables a secure and reliable environment for exchanging data between government agencies. It comprises 100 government entities, and facilitates access to the Internet, in addition to providing access to existing shared government services and future government applications, according to information on the website of MoTC.
By providing a single connection to each government entity, the Government Network limits complexities related to multiple connection points, and reduces time, effort and cost, required for the connection.
According to recently released figures, in the second quarter of this year, over 510,000 new accounts had been added to the National Authentication System (Tawtheeq).
The Tawtheeq provides access to government’s e-services with unified login data. MoTC figures show 518,105 new accounts were added to the Tawtheeq during Q2 of 2021.
The Government Network provides network connectivity services between four main groups of users: Inter-government entities; government entities with shared government services; government entities with government data centres; and government entities with the public Internet.
