Doha: Qatar Museums is hosting a series of online activities throughout the month of June, inviting members of the community to attend virtual art workshops, film screenings and guided tours.
Happening at National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is a Virtual Field Trip, every Sunday and Tuesday from 9am to 12pm. This cultural adventure offers school and university students in Qatar and abroad the chance to explore the museum right from their classrooms. During the live virtual tour, participants will be able to interact directly with their museum guide.
Schools can choose one of the following themes: Life on the Coast in Qatar, The Modern History of Qatar, Qatari Architecture, and The Discovery of Black Gold and Transformation in Qatar. The virtual tours are offered in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and German. For more information, email [email protected].
NMoQ will also hold a School Virtual Art Workshop, which has hourly sessions every Thursday from 9am to 12pm. Grade 1 to 9 students have a chance to interact with Qatar’s culture and natural environment in creative ways through which they will gain artistic skills, such as drawing, painting and clay molding. Guided Tour: Pearl Divers’ Story is scheduled on June 17 and 24 for English language, and on June 20 and 27 for Arabic language, both from 4pm to 5pm. Participants will embark on a special journey looking for pearls, starting with a search at the depths of the sea and ending with the trade which had a great impact on the lives of the people in Qatar. At Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, An Evening To Celebrate Qatar’s Growing National Film Industry, presented by Mathaf in collaboration with Doha Film Institute is set on June 16. There will be short films screening from 5pm to 6pm. Join Mathaf for a compelling programme of acclaimed short films followed by a tour through the museum’s world-class collection of modern and contemporary art. Films to be screened are Hope, The Artist: Yacoub Missi, 1001 Days, Stranger by Yasser Mustafa, Maha’mel by Dhabya AlMuhannadi, and Voices from the Urbanscape (Aswat Al Umran Al Hadeeth). Storytime at Mathaf will be on June 18, Saturday from 4pm to 5pm. Families and children will be delighted by the inspiring story of Jazara “Carrot,” who discovers the joy of becoming a big brother to not one but ten siblings.
