The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) yesterday announced six new cases of COVID-19 in Qatar among expatriates, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 24.
The new cases are all expatriate residents, all of whom have had contact with the previously announced community cases.
The new patients have been admitted to the Communicable Disease Center under complete isolation and the people they have had contact with have also been checked and tested, the Ministry said.
The Ministry has also set up a dedicated, round-the-clock call center to answer all questions and inquiries related to COVID-19. The hotline number 16000 is toll-free.
In another step to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), yesterday imposed a temporary ban on serving shisha/hookah in all restaurants and cafes until further notice.
The Ministry affirms that any party that violates this decision will be held accountable and legal action will be taken.
The MoPH also urged all companies and individuals to follow preventive measures to ensure their safety and that of the community and refer to the website of the Ministry for all information about COVID 19 virus that is provided in several languages, or call toll-free number 16000.
Many people on social media welcomed the decision by the Ministry to impose a temporary ban on serving shisha/hookah in all restaurants and cafes. They tweeted saying ‘It’s a good decision’, ‘right decision.’
Further, Katara also announced it had stopped serving shisha in its restaurants and cafes for the health and safety of customers in line with the directive that the Ministry of Public Health issued yesterday.
