Doha: Overcoming the shadows of fears related to the spread of COVID-19, the citizens and residents of Qatar have expressed their resolve to defeat the threat through unity and volunteering. To support the government efforts, Twitter users yesterday launched a hashtag in Arabic #WeAreAllVolunteersForQatar, announcing their readiness for volunteering works to implement any plan to counter the spread of COVID-19 in the country, and assisting the competent authorities in the State to implement its precautionary measures.
The number of tweets encouraging volunteering reached over 5,000 yesterday evening. “Judges, civilians, military personnel, lawyers, engineers, pilots, teachers, students, employees, all of them are for Qatar,” lawyer Khaled Al Mohannadi tweeted. Sara Saad, tweeted: “I announce that I am ready to volunteer myself for anything possible needed by the state. I am completely free all the day long, and what we could do for our country is nothing less than our obligation”.
Some of them suggested that in such circumstances the “best thing to do is to adhere to preventive measures” announced by the authorities concerned and to fight rumours. The second important thing the twitter users suggested is to spread awareness. “Take care of your children, don’t visit malls except for necessary things, and to keep yourself and your children away from gatherings,” they suggested.
Others praised the government's measures for the safety of the people and taking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus. A resident, Youssef Abdel Karim, tweeted: “I am a retired doctor currently residing in Qatar, I am ready for any volunteering work requested by the Ministry at any location or in any filed, especially in an ambulance, preventive medicine and research.”
