Doha: Qatar Creates is all set to premiere the brand-new production of acclaimed director Mira Nair’s musical Monsoon Wedding, in Doha on Nov 17. Based on the award-winning 2001 Indian comedy-drama of the same name, Monsoon Wedding the Musical will be on show at the Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre in Souq Waqif until Nov 26.
Presented by Qatar Creates Events and the Qatar-MENASA 2022 Year of Culture, the musical is part of Qatar Creates’ lively cultural programme for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond.
The musical features the same powerful and joyful juxtaposition of tradition and modernity that secured the original film a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and garnered nominations at the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards.
In the musical iteration, Doha audiences will experience the talent of a stellar Indian cast that took five years to assemble, performing an original score by Indian composer Vishal Bhardwaj, lyrics by Tony award nominee Masi Asare and Susan Birkenhead, and book by Arpita Mukherjee and Sabrina Dhawan; along with three hit songs from the film by Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna, and instrumentation from the Tony Award-winning orchestrator of ‘The Band’s Visit’, Jamshied Sharifi.
Tickets for the upcoming musical start at QR200 and can be purchased from the Qatar Creates Events website. Qatar Creates’ One Pass holders can access the musical as part of their benefits package.
