Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) are planning to sign a bilateral framework memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Build on their previous cooperation, the proposed agreement will provide a legal basis to ensure better organised work, execute projects for the benefit of vulnerable groups, and create an effective platform to widely promote a culture of human rights.

According to Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairman of NHRC, their new strategy holds QRCS up as a top priority, through joint events and activities that reflect the shared aspects and areas of work.

A high-profile delegation from NHRC met Secretary-General of QRCS, Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi. The delegation comprised Chairman of NHRC, Maryam Al Attiyah; Head of Public Relations and Media Department, Abdulla Ali Al Mahmoud and Expert Dr. Mohamed Yakoub.

The meeting was attended by Executive Director of Relief and International Development, Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi; Executive Director of Medical Affairs Division, Abdullah Sultan Al Qattan; Head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Fawzi Oussedik and Community Development Coordinator, Khalida Ali Mostafa.

They discussed the agenda of joint activities in relevant issues, with the aim of serving various social groups and working in their best interest, inspired by the values of human dignity and respect.

With NHRC’s network of regional and global relations, and QRCS’s status as a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, both parties are well in place to make a real difference in relation to human rights.

Three existing programs were presented as viable channels to promote human rights: rehabilitation of penitentiary inmates, QRCS school programme for students, and standing together for expatriate workers. In the end of their meeting, the participants expressed happiness with the great potential for integrated efforts and shared vision.
