As part of its goal to establish a modern health care system based on global standards of research and education programmes, and high-quality practitioners and facilities, the new South Al Wakra Health Center under the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) aim to bring medical services closer to the public.
The Health Center, inaugurated earlier this week by the H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health has registered over 2,000 patients and has an initial 5,000 capacity, increasing to 20,000.
Speaking to the media yesterday during a facility tour, South Al Wakra Health Center Manager Dr. Maryam Mohamed Al Dosari said the catchment area of the South Al Wakra HC is part Zone 90, which covers 780 buildings.
“About 2,000 people have so far registered with the health centre who are currently availing the medical services from the health centre. People can register themselves on the link in the PHCC website or can register on-site,” Dr. Al Dosari said.
She added that the health centre could take in transfers from Al Wakra and Al Thumama Health Centers after registering its catchment area.
Other top facilities include a vein-viewer machine for phlebotomy. The device supports accessing the vein while drawing blood from patients. The health center has a radiology unit that performs radiology reports for urgent cases within 60 minutes and two days for routine cases.
“People with special needs also have special access to the pharmacy. We deliver the family medicine service, the integrated clinics composed of family medicine as a specialty, antenatal, postnatal, well-baby clinic, dietician, and health educator. We also care about maternal health counselling, and we have special counselling for pharmacy,” Dr. Al Dosari added.
She stressed that the Type A health centre will involve the youth to strengthen the bond between the community and health service providers.
“The youth will attend the steering committee meeting, which is done every three months in our health centre. We want them to raise their opinions, suggestions and meet their expectations as well so that we can have projects between the health and education sectors.”
Meanwhile, the South Al Wakra HC is one of the four health centres surrounding the Al Janoub stadium, fulfilling the FIFA criteria of having four health cenres around the stadium.
She added that the facility also offers COVID-19 services and has a negative pressure isolation room. She stated that the health center offers flu vaccines, a campaign that started on September 1, and urged people to get inoculated even if they have taken the COVID-19 vaccine.
With 83 staff currently on its roster, the health center also boasts an auditorium used for various activities between the staff and the patient.
