The region’s leading retailer Lulu Hypermarket has launched the first-ever Georgian Food Festival in Qatar to explore the best quality food products from Georgia.
Lulu Hypermarket Group hosted the festival in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia in Qatar. The objective behind the festival was to highlight Georgian food products and introduce the same to the local community.
This was also aligned with Lulu’s search for new sourcing avenues and its clear vision to expand its logistic network worldwide to offer the best quality products to the shoppers.
Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar, H E Nikoloz Revazishvili, inaugurated the festival at Lulu Hypermarket, Al Messila, yesterday in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Althaf, Director of Lulu Group, dignitaries from Central Municipal Council, Ministries, and other various sectors attended the ceremony.
The week-long festival is focused exclusively on various Georgian food products, namely grocery food, meat, meat products, fruits, and vegetables. It will be available at all Lulu Hypermarket outlets.
The festival has largely showcased the major brands of Georgian grocery lines, namely Chikori, Georgias Natural, Gurieli, Kind & Noble, Meama, Nena, Bakhmaro & Nabeghlavi, and Geo Natura.
Speaking at the event, the Ambassador said, “I am honoured and pleased to be here as we are launching the Georgian Food Festival 2021 in Lulu Hypermarkets. I would like to extend my deep gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Althaf for his excellent support for this project; without you, this would not have happened.”
He said that the festival is very special for the embassy because it supports promoting Georgian products in Qatar.
Speaking to The Peninsula, the Ambassador said: “From now, you will find around 50 different varieties of Georgian products – organic juices, mineral waters, chocolates, dry fruits, nuts, and various seasonal fresh fruits like cherries.”
He noted that Georgian lambs are also being made available under the festival. “I think this is the beginning, and more products will be brought to Doha,” said the Ambassador.
Dr. Mohamed Althaf, Director of Lulu Group, said, “We launched the first-ever Georgian Food Festival in Qatar, and I believe arguably the first one in the MENA region. This would not have been possible without the active involvement of the Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar.”
“Now we in Qatar realize that Georgia has got a lot more to offer for us, and it has got excellent geography and biodiversity and excellent food products.”
He added: “Lulu wants to further explore all the opportunities available in Georgia now, with its excellent connectivity to Qatar and with the all favourable trade agreements that Georgia has with the countries in the GCC.
Residents and citizens of Qatar will have an opportunity to see the excellent products, high safety quality, and taste.”
“After the pandemic, we plan to open a Lulu packaging house in Georgia to start importing goods from there directly. Georgian products received high demand in Qatar,” said Dr. Althaf.
