Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Krishna Bahadur Mahara (pictured) has said that Qatar-Nepal strong relations cover numerous sectors from diplomacy to trade.
“To further enhance bilateral ties, Nepal has also formed a parliamentary friendship group for Qatar and hope that Qatari side will do the same,” Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal, Krishna Bahadur Mahara told The Peninsula on the sidelines of 140th Assembly of IPU which is being held in Doha.
He said that these two groups will exchange their views and opinions on parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries. “I met with high level Qatari officials and invited them to visit Nepal as the country to mark 2020 as the year of visits where high level meetings will be held between the two countries to further enhance existing relations,” said Mahara.
Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal also lauded the speech of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the opening of the 140th Assembly of the IPU in which H H the Amir had underlined the need of quality education.
“The speech of H H the Amir was excellent in which he delivered a message to the world to focus on education for real development of the society,” said Mahara.
Speaking about the theme of the 140th Assembly of the IPU and related meetings, Mahara said that education is necessary for security, peace, good governance and democratic exercise.
“The parliament is a legislative body which can do legislation to upgrade education system as it is very essential for the development and good governance,” said Mahara.
He said that the parliamentarians from many counties during the discussions on the theme had focused on boosting quality education to ensure the security and peace.
Speaking about gender equality, an agenda of the discussion of the Assembly and related meetings, Mahara said: “I believe that without giving power to marginalised groups like women and ethnic groups, democracy can not function properly.”
He said that under the initiative of promoting gender equality, women and other marginalised groups should be given full rights which are necessary for a functional democracy. “I argued in my speech on the security of the people and the ways of protecting the marginalized groups like women and ethnic groups,” said Mahara.
