DOHA: The General Directorate of Traffic yesterday launched vehicle registration (Istimara) renewal via Metrash2.

The new service will enable vehicle owners to complete vehicle registration renewal electronically and get the card delivered at the given address or collect them from Traffic Service Centres as per their convenience.

MoI service centres conduct more than 4,000 transactions daily, and more than 70,000 transactions per month for vehicle renewal.

The total transactions through Metrash2 in March reached at 1,87,000 and 1,215 transactions for Istimara renewal although the service was under trial.

The launch of the service was in collaboration with the General Directorate of Information Systems. Speaking at a press conference held at the General Directorate of Traffic headquarters, Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, General Director of the General Directorate of Traffic stressed the importance of electronic traffic services in general, as they had tangible impact on the mitigation of procedures, and the movement of individuals.

The event was attended by Brigadier Abdul Rahman Ali Al Maliki, Asst. Director of the General Directorate of Information Systems and Brig. Abdulla Khalifa Al Muftah, Public Relations Department Director and many other senior officers.

All types of vehicles including private, government, and companies can be renewed using this service and it will be a 24/7 service. The vehicle registration renewal fee can be paid electronically using credit card for individuals and direct debit from bank account for companies.

Once the technical inspection is completed successfully and insurance of the vehicle is issued, the vehicle owner shall log into Metrash2 or MOI e-services portal and select Traffic Services then choose Vehicle Registration Renewal from the listed services. The customer will provide the vehicle plate number, choose the correct type of registration and then confirm the details provided.

The service came as part of the strategy of the Ministry of the Interior to develop its services through its various departments and Qatar National Vision 2030 and its digital vision 2020, which will facilitate and simplify the procedures related to the service of citizens and residents.

For his part, Abdul Rahman Ali Al Maliki, ADG of Information Systems Directorate said that this service will save the time of visitors instead of going to the service centers. Major Ali Hassan Al Kaabi, Head of Vehicle Licensing Section at the Licensing Department of the General Directorate of Traffic, said that the most burdensome transactions for the people were the renewal of the license of the vehicle because they are done on an annual basis. However, after the launch of this service, after the completion of the technical inspection, the person can renew the Istimara and pay the insurance fees directly “online” by Metrash2, without the need to visit the General Directorate of Traffic.
