DOHA: Peter Anders posted his second win of the season as Marco Monteriso guided the six-year-old Al Murqab Stud entry to Loyalty Cup Day win at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) yesterday.
With Ponfeigh close on his heels, Peter Anders exhibited remarkable lung power to outrun the Emir’s Trophy runers-up in the 1400m race worth QR 85,000 to the winner.
Peters Anders clocked a time of 2:24:92. Ponfeigh, who finished runners-up to Dubday in the Emir’s Trophy earlier in the season, ended yesterday’s feature race in second spot with jockey Liam Jones.
Right To Dream, ridden by Alberto Sanna, finished third as Peter Anders edged Ponfeigh in a photo-finish.
It was jockey Menteriso’s 28th win of the season which is entering it’s last four weeks at QREC.
Earlier in race seven, Shaolin saddled by Mohammed Jassim Al Ghazali, topped the 12-entry field with jockey J P Gullambert.
Bretherton, ridden by Gaetan Faucon, finished in second spot in the 1400m race while Peter Mac - who had Sanna in the saddle - ended the race in the third spot.
Shaolin’s winning time was 1:20:7.
Harry Bentley - the star jockey from Wednesday’s proceedings - added two more wins as record-setting trainer Jassim Al Ghazali also added a couple of triumphs to his bulging tally.
Bentley, who won six races on Wednesday, topped race six with Damascene and race five with Tachophobia.
In race four, Monteriso guided Ba’sil to win in the 1600m race ahead of Kimfalah and Hector at QREC.
Jockey T O’Shea was the winner with Saab in race three while Fer’Ha and Thabit finished in second and third places respectively.
French jockey Gerald Avranche posted his 30th win of the season with Tumut in race two.
Faleh Bughanaim was in the saddle when Hawra romped to a three-length win in race one ahead of Takfaa and Saif Al Shujaa.
