Doha: The diplomatic, consular and representative missions of the State of Qatar abroad organised various sporting events on the occasion of the National Sport Day, in accordance with the precautionary measures to limit the COVID-19 spread.
In Riyadh, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia organized a sports event on the occasion of the National Sport Day, with the participation of Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Saudi Arabia H E Bandar bin Muhammad Al Attiyah, the embassy staff and employees of the GCC General Secretariat. The event included football, walking and various sports activities.

In a speech on this occasion, the Ambassador said that the State of Qatar has designated the second Tuesday of February of every year since 2012 as a Sport Day, noting that the National Sport Day aims to encourage participation in many sports activities, stressing the importance that the State of Qatar attaches to raise the profile of sport, with its many values and benefits for citizens and residents, especially since the State of Qatar will organize the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, at the end of this year, in addition to hosting the 2030 Asian Games.
In Paris, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the French Republic organized various sporting events on the National Sports Day, with the participation of Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the French Republic H E Sheikh Ali bin Jassem Al Thani and all members of the mission, including diplomats and local staff.

The Sports Day program included various sports activities within the ancient “Park Monceau”, including brisk walking, jogging and various fitness exercises, while respecting the rules of social distancing to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In his speech on this occasion, the Ambassador stressed the importance that the State of Qatar attaches to sports, based on the wise vision of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani aimed to encourage sports and raise awareness of its effective role in the development of society and the promotion of moral and human values.

In Vienna, the State of Qatar’s Embassy to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Mission to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna held sporting events on the occasion of the National Sport Day in a sports centre in the Austrian capital Vienna, with the participation of the diplomatic and embassy staff.

H E Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki held a celebration on the occasion of the National Sport Day. The events, which included various activities and exercises, were limited to a certain number of officials from the various EU and NATO bodies, due to health conditions.

In Ankara, the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Turkey held a sports event on the occasion of the National Sport Day. The event was attended by Mehmet Akif Ostendag, President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, a number of federation officials, coaches and referees, as well as diplomats, embassy staff and a number of Turkish citizens. The activities that were held in an enthusiastic atmosphere included football matches, the use of sports equipment in the indoor hall, and long walks.

Participation in the events was limited to embassy and military attache employees, due to the restrictions imposed to limit the COVID-19 spread.
The participants delivered speeches, expressing their happiness at the uniqueness of the State of Qatar in dedicating this day, which embodies the link between productivity and a healthy body through stimulating the practice of sports on an ongoing basis to develop capabilities and hone skills.
